Grave Delights by Victoria Cerises (#lesbian #PNR #horror)

While it is likely not the first such story I ever read, the first lesbian story I remember reading was a lesbian vampire story, and that has always stayed with me. For that reason, I was excited when Victoria Cerises asked me to give Grave Delights a read, and it did not disappoint.

The writing here is wonderful, capturing the feel and the sounds of the 17th century, and realistically portraying the friendship between two young girls. It is a sweet, innocent romance, but the era gives it an edge, with hunger, family violence, and the threat of arranged marriage looming over their relationship.

The horror elements are well-played, with werewolves and vampires having a seductive allure, but they are clearly more monster than man. The rivalry between them is, perhaps, a tad clichéd, but it does set up a fantastic twist in the last part of the book that raises more questions than it answers, making Grave Ambitions a must-read.

Victoria Cerises lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland. When she isn't writing, she enjoys the company of a fine red wine, a good book, and her cat, Berger.
