My admiration for illustrated delights of Shadoman continues, courtesy once again of Amazing Transformation Comics.
A little over three years ago I had the great pleasure of reviewing Domesticated, the story of Dana's feminization at the hands of his mysterious (and beautiful) godmother. Now, at long last,
Shadoman has returned to the same themes of change, acceptance, and submission, but with a new story and a new cast of characters in
Domesticated 2.
This time around the story centers on Brian who, after the passing of his mother, reconnects with an old friend of hers, a woman who was something of an adopted Aunt growing up. A professional sex therapist, she begins working with the 19-year-old virgin to discover the root of his sexual troubles and, in doing so, reveals an inner yearning for femininity he didn't know was there.
At nearly 170 pages, this is one of Shadoman's longest comics to date, and that length allows him the time and space to ease into the story, to get to know the characters, and to explore their environment. It's not until the second chapter that the two of them start taking off their clothes, but it's what Connie puts on - stockings and lingerie - that evokes Brian's first erotic response. Even then, the story doesn't rush headlong into sissification or feminization, but instead allows Brian time to learn what arouses him. There's no mind control or hypnosis involved in leading him into femininity, but there is an interesting manner in which erotica comes to help reshape Brian's thoughts and fantasies.
Of course, if you know Shadoman, transformation involves high-tech kinky labs, sci-fi looking tubes and fluids, and the slow evolution of Brian into Breanna - a process that is capped off by, you guessed it, a little hypnosis to teach Breanna how to experience the full depth and breadth of pleasure as her new self. Shadoman doesn't just tell stories or illustrated erotic scenes, he layers meaning and imagery into his comics, and here that's best exemplified by the shift from the cool colors, plain textures, and sharp edges of Brian's world into the warm colors, flowery textures, and soft edges of Breanna's. It's rather striking, and it changes your whole mood as you're reading.
I love the outfit changes Breanna goes through, with all the colors and styles she learns to incorporate into her appearance. As always, clothing and accessories - including collars, chastity cages, and ball gags - are beautifully rendered and just wonderful to admire. I don't want to spoil too much of the comic, as there are wonderful surprises for readers to uncover, but the introduction of those BDSM elements are, to nobody's surprise, some of my favorite parts of the comic.
What makes it all so much fun is that Breanna has a realistic personality, one that reminds us she's new to this world of fantasy and is struggling to navigate her way through it. She pushes back, makes mistakes, and even doubts herself. As much as I love brainwashing and dollifcation stories, it's so rewarding to watch a character grow and evolve mentally as well as physically. There are some surprising scenes of casual domestic reality and rather ordinary (but gorgeously beautiful) travel in the second half of the comic that reinforces this, accentuating the fantasy and kink by framing it.
In closing, I'll just leave you with the promise of a happy ending and say
Domesticated 2 is so very much worth the read!
