Hops, Follows, and Tag Alongs, Oh My!

The Feature & Follow Hop, courtesy of Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read.

Q. What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

A. I finally checked out Anita Blake after hearing all the hype, but she just didn't work for me. Yeah, she kicked ass, but she certainly lacked something. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is another well-hyped tome that just bored me to tears and made me wish I could have those precious hours back.

The 18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend, hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines.

Q. Do you listen to music while writing reviews or do you need quiet?

A. Absolute quiet while reading, but definitely music while writing reviews. Lately I've been in a very 80s mood, so my playlists haven't strayed far from the likes of KISS, Lizzy Borden, LA Guns, W.A.S.P. and Oingo Boingo.

  10. I totally understand the Anita Blake "underwhelmed" feeling, but i still love her, probably just for the fact that it is one of those first read series for me... and as to your music, nice playlist choices! I can't have the music while reading or writing... Book Savvy Babe

  12. New follower here!

I've read Anita Blake... and I absolutely agree with you! My biggest problem... other than the series degrading into nothing but plotless porn, is that I disliked Anita... she was a snooty biotch, and I just couldn't like her!

I never read your second choice, but I have listened to it on long car rides, and it's a rather pleasant book when taken that way!

  14. Hi,

I read the Anita Blake novels after stumbling on one during a holiday. I really enjoyed the first five or so. After 'Butterfly', I felt that they'd jumped the shark.

I'm with you on Strange & Norrell, though. It wasn't a bad book, just not very gripping! I think the bit that annoyed me the most was that the publishers kept banging on that it wasn't a fantasy book. Oh the joy of labels! ;-)

BTW, have you had a look at any of the Joe Pitt series?

PS: Old follower, first time poster :-)

  16. I loved the first books in the Anita Blake series but then it just got to be too much for me, so out there. I haven't read the last few newer books in the series. I'm sure I will eventual but they're not high on my list right now.

As for music, I'm 50/50. Just depends on the review and how it's coming along. :) Love listening to Friday Night 80's though!

Thanks for joining in the 18+ Follow!

  17. I used to have a copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, I never got the chance to see if I liked it or not as it grew legs and walked right off my bookshelf. I guess I'm not going to be so mad at its mysterious disappearance now. Whoever nicked it might just have been doing me a favour. lol

I'm new to FF and to your blog.
