First off, if you haven't read Snowfall, what the heck are you waiting for? Seriously, you can read Fresh Powder on its own and enjoy it, but to truly appreciate all the nuances, you need to familiarize yourself with how Cyrus, Miranda, and Spider all met.
This first part of Winter's Union is more playful than edgy, less intense than its predecessor, but still full of passion and heat! Cyrus and Miranda are officially a couple now, but that doesn't mean they're exclusive - and Spider, who is one of my favorite supporting characters in erotica, plays into that.
There are three key scenes here, one involving a New Year's Eve party that will make you giggle and sigh; another involving poker chips as part of BDSM play that's absolutely delicious; and another involving a date night celebration that feels like validation of Cyrus and Miranda's love. It's a happier story, one that invites us to be a part of the fun, to take our own vicarious pleasure in theirs, and the blend of power exchange play and breeding risk that opens up the promise of risk returning to the tale.
Having introduced his characters and their relationship, Benson E. Wolf takes the opportunity to delve deeper into their personalities and their pasts. We get to know them better, including little details that are all the more appreciated for having been earned. I can't say much, but there's a scene involving the reveal of Spider's most intimate tattoo that I absolutely adored!
