Just over a decade ago, Alan Barrie was one of the first authors to send me a book for review. A Woman's Passion is a book that I loved the first time around, and loved just as much this second time. I'm excited to have the opportunity to showcase the new edition, and I'm even more excited to have two more of his stories to review, but you'll be hearing more about them soon!
A Woman's Passion is not just another feminization fantasy, but a sincere, romantic exploration of what it means to be a woman (and what it means to be a man, relating to a woman). There is an element of fantasy to the story but, instead of being a convenient plot device, the magical transformation adds an otherwise impossible level of significance and detail to the experience.
The story allows us to experience the transformation of a man into a woman, and share in the joys, the fears, the insecurities, and the excitement of taking on a new gender role. We're invited to share in all the wondrous first time experiences you'd expect, including slipping into a pair of panties, applying lipstick, and walking in heels. The magic certainly provides an edge, shaping a body that's naturally made for all of that, but readers can learn a lot from those initial, tentative gender explorations.
Once the magic takes hold, driving a rapid transition through puberty, we get to experience the growth and blossoming of a young woman. We're invited to share in the joy of budding breasts, the electric sensations of a newly hard nipple, and the awe-inspiring development of sensuous curves. What keeps the story grounded is the fact that there's no miraculous psychological transformation - although her new body is all-woman, her mind is still very much male, full of fears and doubts and questions.
Although there are erotic aspects to A Woman's Passion, it's a fully realized story that's as full of tension and suspense as wonder and joy. The question of desire and sexual orientation looms large over the story, and the familiar challenges of passing are still present, but what struck me the strongest was the emotional entanglement with Cassandra, the girlfriend who made this possible, but who finds herself growing more and more uncertain as to what this means for them as a couple.
I'm reluctant to say much else, for fear of spoiling things, but this is exactly the book that I was hoping for. It's enlightening, educational, exciting, and erotic. It takes us places many readers can only imagine - we get to live (vicariously) as a woman, and it is an absolutely lovely experience that you won't want to end. As for the ending, I truly did not expect the epilogue, but it truly completes the book.
