On the surface, Call of a Succubus - the first of her new Inhuman Pleasures saga - seems a more conventional work of erotica in a science fiction setting, but there is enough substance here to suggest there is greater depth to be revealed.
Tiris Longsword is a deep space bounty hunter, infiltrating other ships, disabling their defenses, dispatching their crews, and bringing in her quarry dead or alive. We first meet her on one such mission, clad in high-tech armor and with blasters in hand. Beneath that armor, however, is not just another merciless killer but a woman of needs and passions - a softer, more sensual side of her that has gone unfulfilled for far too long.
It is those needs that attract Oriel, the otherworldly succubus, who has come to care for those needs. Rather than have the characters jump right into bed, Garrus has Tiris engage in a little verbal sparring, poking and prodding at the intruder to find out who she is, how she got on the ship, and what she really wants. It reminds us of who she is and where we are, and even if we do not get all the answers, Oriel reveals enough to create some genuine intrigue.
They do, of course, end up fulfilling each other's needs, with Garrus once again doing a wonderful job of exploring futa-on-female erotica. The moves, the dialogue, the sensations, they are all exquisite, with the intensity building to the point where we completely believe in the power of impossible orgasms.
Clearly, with Lust of a Succubus and Test of a Succubus already published, there is more to the story, and I suspect we will see the depths of the story more fully explored.
World traveler and aspiring God-Empress, April Garrus tried a number of things (teaching, MMA, pro wrestling, etc.) before discovering a profound talent for writing dirty stories. She enjoys coffee, metal, kung fu movies, and crushing her enemies.
