If you have not been following along, then stop right now, give Futa's Passionate Awakening a read, and catch up with the books that follow. Futa's Passionate Embrace is the sixth and final book in the series, and you really want to know how we got here.
The book opens on a bit of an odd note, not so much showing us how the cliff-hanger of Futa's Passions Erupts was resolved, but telling us what happened after. I hesitate to say too much, but with one swift thrust, and one ecstatic ejaculation, the world as we know it . . . is no more.
I could talk a lot about the plot and the storytelling here - which is some of the best Reed James has offered to date - but I do not want to spoil a moment of the fun. Instead, I want to talk a bit about its themes, which are what I think firmly define this as an erotic work of science fiction, embracing everything both genres are meant to do.
Love and pleasure have been at the heart of this series from the very beginning. Helen, Ally, and their futa concubines have an insatiable lust for one another, for the men of the world, for the women of the world, and for themselves. Pleasure is a part of them, with orgasms and ejaculations as much a part of their self-expression as smiles and hugs are for the rest of us. They are truly insatiable, capable of performing again and again, never tiring, and never losing potency. The futas of this universe are the very embodiment of lust.
Love, on the other hand, has always been a trickier subject. There are characters throughout the series who well-and-truly love one another, in the traditional romantic way we would understand. We are talking spouses, best friends, and more. That traditional love is challenged time and time again, transformed and altered, but it is always there. At the same time, there is the passionate, helpless, submissive love each futa feels for the futa who created her, and for either Helen or Ally as her Queen. That is a far more dangerous kind of love, and one that we have seen cause people to do some very bad things for very good reasons. It is addiction, it is mind control, and it is slavery.
The pleasure is still here in this final chapter, but the question of love - the very definition of love - is what drives the final conflict. If you take away futa love, what is left? If you free them from that addictive love, what fills the void? With submission and slavery gone, people will undoubtedly be changed, but in which way, and to what extent? Of course, the flip-side is true as well, and there is still a lot of hatred and fear in the world, even with the futa explosion, and that brings complications of its own
Can love and pleasure whip away hate and division? That is what it all comes down to.
Yes, Futa's Passions Erupts is the tale of a last stand, a story of the potential end of humanity, with the consequences of the opening scenes leaving us with no safe way to navigate the tension. It is still an incredibly erotic, deliciously kinky book, but it is a frightening one at the same time. The stakes are huge, the choices are suitably chilling, and characters do die. In fact, there is a shot to the head in one of the final chapters that made me stop dead in my tracks, unable to believe it. There is a happy ending to be found, I will tell you that much, but it will be hard-won . . . and well-deserved.
Reed James is a thirty year-old guy living in Tacoma, WA. "I love to write, I find it freeing to immerse myself in a world and tell its stories and then share them with others." He's been writing naughty stories since high school, furiously polishing his craft, and finally feels ready to share his fantasies with the world.
