Continuing our theme of illustrated delights, author/artist Bex has graciously offered to grace our pages once again, this time to share some of his work from TGComics.com, home to The Alchemist, The Chrysalis Inn, and The Attachment.
Now, without further ado, please allow me to introduce you to the delights of The Alchemist.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
The Alchemist is a comic that opens on a sinister note, leaving no question as to what Sam has in mind for his new neighbor. I like that it wastes no time getting going, with a dangerous potion, creepy voyeurism, and erotic dreams all within the first three pages.
Bex's artwork is just delightful, hand drawn and full of sensuous detail. As soon as Chris wakes from his dream, even before he realizes it, we can see the telltale shape of budding breasts beneath his t-shirt. It is subtle, just two softly penciled curves in the material, but what the image suggests is powerful. The transformation that follows is as quick as it is thorough, and aside from the over-helpful saleswoman who is so eager to sell him on a bimbo image, the way the story develops is largely realistic. Chris finds himself changing physically, mentally, and emotionally, so much so that he cannot even remain angry about the discovery of his neighbor's sinister plans.
The first thing I noticed about the second part of the story is how vibrant and colorful the artwork is, echoing Chris' newfound femininity. It is a simple thing, but the contrast between chapters, between before and after, is wonderful. As she becomes more accustomed to her new gender, she becomes increasingly sexual, and even goes total exhibitionist, putting on an erotic cheer-leading display for her neighbors.
There are a number of revelations and reveals here, and the arrival of a new neighbor, in whom Sam sees even more potential for his elixir, adds an interesting bit of conflict to the story. It adds some real relationship potential to the story, and exposes more of the characters personalities as they come into competition with one another.
Of course, this would not be a Bex comic without some further twists to excite the reader, and even if you see it coming, the way it ends is superbly sexual, with not just one but two happily ever-afters. A great story, with some fun dialogue, and gorgeous illustrations that bring the sexuality and sensuality to the forefront, The Alchemist is another delightful addition to my comic library.
