The Watermans Get Freaky by Elle Danielson (#erotica #bisexual #poly)

Take a good look at that cover. It suggests a very specific story, but appearances (in this case) are deceiving . . . exceptionally deceiving. Actually, that is kind of the entire point of The Watermans Get Freaky - an absolutely marvelous, beautiful, inspirational erotic romance about people finding love in the most unexpected places.

I cannot tell you how much I adored this book. Elle Danielson told me just enough about it to pique my interest, but I had no idea how deeply it would resonate with me. To the casual bystander, Chris and Jana look like the perfect church-going suburban couple, while Derrick and Stormi look like the epitome of white trash. You would never guess that the former are into kinky sex and swinging, or that the latter are so vulnerable and romantic. They say opposites attract but, as we discover, they are only opposites in looks - deep down, where it matters, they are soul-mates.

A story about swinging and bisexual experimentation is the last place you would expect to find a theme of spirituality, but that is part of what is so deceiving about this story. Danielson exposes the dark side of the church, talking about abuse and homophobia within traditional congregations, but she also celebrates its bright side, with a rainbow-friendly congregation that welcome all expressions of love. Yes, there is hated and prejudice to be found her, but it makes the love and acceptance that much sweeter. Chris and Jana do not just take Derrick and Stormi as lovers, they take them as friends, and even family.

Of course, with a title like The Watermans Get Freaky you expect a certain degree of sex, and boy-oh-boy does this deliver! There is a little bit of everything here, sex in all combinations, but it is simultaneously hot and sweet. For instance, a lesbian striptease has an undercurrent of romantic discovery, while first time gay sex exposes emotional vulnerabilities. I feel like I am barely scratching the surface here, only hinting at how delightful the interplay of erotic fantasy and emotional spirituality is, but you really do need to experience it to appreciate it.

Who hasn't felt the spark of instant attraction and lust? In real life, we can't always act on it, but I love creating characters who are free to explore each and every fantasy. Some of my stories are dark, some are funny, but all are intensely erotic. Even the raunchiest of my stories are filled with genuine love and romance.
