"Waiting On" Wednesday - The Five by Robert McCammon

"Waiting On" Wednesday spotlights upcoming releases that everyone's excited about (created by Jill at Breaking The Spine.)

Although I don't normally look this far ahead for a new read, I absolutely cannot wait to get my pretty little hands on:

The FiveThe Five by Robert McCammon: A complex, mind-blowing story of a rock band's last days. The Five -- rage-filled frontman Nomad, lesbian drummer Berke, retro-inspired keyboardist Terry, self-possessed bassist Mike, and mellow vocalist/guitarist Ariel -- are winding down a tour in the Southwest. Both Terry and their manager want out, so this looks to be their last tour. Inspired by a chance meeting with a mysterious woman, they decide to write one final song as a team. What they don't know is that an unstable ex-Marine is stalking them, driven to assassinate them all. After he kills a band member, the remaining four of the Five dodge from gig to gig, pawns in a supernatural struggle far beyond their comprehension.

I've always loved Robert's work, from the epic apocalyptic vision of Swan Song, to the charm of Boy's Life, and to the more recent delights of Matthew Corbett (Speaks the Nightbird, The Queen of Bedlam, and Mister Slaughter). This is one that will definitely be making a prompt appearance on my bookshelves.

  1. Great pick! I've actually never read anything by the author, but it sounds promising. I hope you get your hands on a copy and thanks for visiting my WoW.

  2. Wow, sounds like a cool book! Like Christina above, I haven't read anything by the author either and while I usually stick to YA novels, I really like the sound of this. Plus the 'supernatural struggle' further peaked my interest ;) Great pick!

  3. Sally,

Thanks to alerting me to a new book by McCammon, it is great to see him writing again. I would recommend him to anyone, especially loved his book of short stories, Blue World.

    Hugs,

  4. Ditto what April said. McCammon hasn't come out with anything for awhile, so it's good to see something new from him! I loved Swan Song, Baal and Stinger. The Night Boat was pretty good too. It's funny because I just bought Boys Life at a used bookstore not even a week ago. I'll have to finish all my Wicca books, and then I'll get to that one. Thanks for the news!
