REVIEW: Happily Ever Before by Jaye Valentine

This was an absolutely delightful short story!

In terms of plot, it's comprised of a single erotic scene involving the transgendered White Queen and her illicit lover, the Red Knight. It's passionate and sexual, but it's also very, very amusing.

What makes the story so delightful is how Jaye tells it. She uses language and dialogue right out of Wonderland, and she plays with time, relating the events in a mixed up chronological order that begins with their sexual climax, proceeds backwards through foreplay, and ends with their invitation to lustful dalliance.

Like the Lewis Carroll classic itself, the gender-bending and time-bending are more curious than confusing, and they do lend themselves very well to a thoroughly entertaining read.
